Transportation

Harbors :This sector has been developed greatly in the last few years because of the great importance of importing and exporting ways which pass through it. Also, Basra is close to the exporting centers in the south- east part of Asia and the Arab Gulf which made this harbor a vital place for transporting goods. The government is trying to build the biggest harbor in the gulf area for transporting goods between the East and Europe, it is expected to have a harbor with a 100 docks with capacity of 400-500 million ton per year.

Air Transport

Concerning air transportation, Basra has two commercial airports, one of them is now out of work since the Iranian war, the other one currently represents one of the biggest airports in Iraq which is 'Basra International Airport, from which the national and the international flights are regularly taking off since 2003 to Dubai, Amman, Damascus, Lebanon and Cairo. Basra is looking forward to open other new airlines with Tehran and London.

Land transport

Basra has such a good net of highway land transportation which includes both the railways and the highways, the province is linked with the other Iraqi provinces that the railway passes through. At the same time, there is a net of internal roadways(major and sub).
