The Health Directorate of Basra includes 18 hospitals distributed among the city centre (7 hospitals) and the outskirts (11 hospital) in addition to 5 other private hospitals. Nevertheless the average of beds which those hospitals provide in the province is 11 beds for each 10,000 citizen, and this indicates that Basra is in need to construct new specialized hospitals to make way for the investments to develop the health centers in Basra. The centers of education in Basra include three main institutions, they are The University of Basra, The Technical Institute, The Technical College and General Directorate of Education. University of Basra has played a vital role providing large numbers of qualified cadres who are specialized to work in various fields, and as the prepared statistical numbers of this sector suggest, the increase in the number of students is noticeable which many provide a great opportunity to open scientific investment institution for all the academic and technical levels, The centers of scientific researches and information technology in addition to the need of the presence of new specialized studies.
